studying from home 10 tips for
Have you wondered how to study from home when we are all trying to work and lead life in a pandemic within the home? Do you need concentration on this attempt? At UNIACC we give you advice or tips to help your studies bear fruit during this current context.
Check out these 10 tips to study at home!
1. Choose a quiet and bright place to study
Noise is always a great distractor. For this reason, one of the main tips is to choose a place in your house that is quiet and has optimal lighting. In addition, the temperature is always an inconvenience when studying, so worry about keeping your study place heated in winter, and cool on hot days.
2. Sleep the right hours
According to a study by the Complutense University of Madrid , sleep affects performance and, of course, the effectiveness of the study. In this research they indicate that greater sleep irregularity is associated with worse grades and lower performance in cognitive, verbal, spatial, reasoning and numerical skills. For this reason, try to try to make a schedule that has as a strict condition enough hours of sleep (7 or 8 hours) so that the performance and concentration in your studies are optimal.
3. Do not study hungry
Before starting any task or study material, the first thing you should do is eat what is necessary to satisfy your appetite. There is nothing more terrible than studying hungry, especially because you will lose the concentration that is so difficult to maintain. For this reason, it is recommended that you eat before studying or, if you are not that hungry, leave an emergency snack near you.
4. Plan your study schedules
Having a specific schedule is very important for you to perform in your studies. Having a planning of the days and precise moments in which you are going to study will help you to concentrate in advance and know the subjects that you will learn.
5. Keep everything you need close to you
Order is an essential issue when studying at home. In this sense, a relevant piece of advice is to have a large table that gives you the freedom to have everything you need, be it books, notes, the computer, pencils, notes, or whatever you need.
6. Take a shower before studying
This advice has nothing to do with your hygiene, but rather with avoiding stress, that is, improving your health. It is proven that bathing has a great influence on relaxing your muscles. In fact, experts agree on this. A publication on the Nueva Mujer site states that an optimal shower with hot water relaxes the muscles (29-40 ºC); then, continuing with a warmer temperature (24-29 ºC) manages to reactivate us; while finishing with jets of cold water activate circulation.
7. Use a study method
There are various methods that work when studying, but it will always depend on the qualities of each student. Here are some ways that can be very useful to perform at your best in your studies:
Separate titles with colors, decorate folders according to theme and with colorful post-its next to the computer, or between the books.
Create summaries by dividing them into subjects or themes.
Invent your own way of making concept maps.
8. Take a break
A very good advice when studying is to rest. But what would that be like? The idea is that the study periods you have are around 50 minutes, alternated with 10 rest. In this way, you will avoid headaches, stress, fatigue and the typical symptoms of lack of concentration when studying.
9. Do not impose a number of hours of study
The most important thing is that you study to the point where you are able to explain the topic accurately and understandably, out loud and without having to look at the material. In this way, you can occupy 2 hours or up to 4. Everything will depend on your level of concentration.
10. Avoid your cell phone and, above all, social networks
Leaving your cell phone in another place, on silent or turned off, is one of the best options you have to concentrate at home. In this way, neither a call nor a WhatsApp will bother you when studying at home. Another point is to avoid, for a moment, social networks like Facebook or Instagram. We know that it costs, but entering these social networks can take away our concentration and lose dedication to the study.
Complying with all the mentioned tips will help you reduce the hours of study and concentrate more now that you will have to study at home with your family.
