How to Send Big Files with FTP

FTP stands for “afi” for “file transfer protocol,” which is what allows you to move large files with ease. If you’re someone who frequently uploads files to the Internet, then FTP can be a lifesaver. But it can also be a pain in the neck if your data is small and compressed. That’s where compression tools come in. Compressing your data takes some time, but it can save you a lot of time and hassle down the road.

To use FTP, you will need to know how to set up your computer and connection with the internet. To start, open your computer’s Start Menu and type “cmd” into the search bar. Once found, press enter and click on it. Type “netstat -an” into the command line and press hit return. This will show you all of your current internet connections and what devices they are connected to. The output should look something like this:

[sudo] netstat -an | grep COMPUTER_NAME 1025:tcp 0 0 1026:udp 0 0 1027:http 0 0 1028:https 2 25 21]

The COMPUTER_NAME column shows which computer is connected to the internet, while the other columns show which ports are open on that computer (1025, 1026, 1027, etc). In this particular example, we can see that our computer is connected to both tcp and http ports (1025 and 2028), but also has been connected to tcp port 21 (the default port for https:// websites). We can also see that our computer is using dns server 86400 (which we’ll address later). Finally, we can see that our computer has been asked by our web browser to lookup www-data in CloudFlare’s DNS servers list as well as www-data1 in CloudFlare’s secondary DNS servers list (we’ll address these later too).
